so long, farewell

Hey everyone,  I'm stopping in for what is most likely my last post at this blog.

After years -- and I mean years -- of mulling it over, I have finally made the decision and the move to WordPress.

It's no secret that my blogging has taken the way back seat.  Like, back of the bus back seat lately.  And it wasn't that I didn't want to blog.  I wanted to, very badly in fact.  It was like an itch I couldn't scratch. But no matter how much I wanted to, every time I would sit down at my computer, I would be overwhelmed with boredom, and severe writer's block.  If I could think of a topic, it wouldn't go anywhere, or by the time I got halfway through the post, I got fed up and left.

I like Blogger and all, but it has come time where I want more.  More for my blog, and more from my blog host, and after perusing WordPress, the answer became clear.

It was fresh, and new, and I was excited to write my first post.  It felt good in the same way that opening up a brand new notebook feels.  A blank canvas.  And I think it's finally time for me to move on.

I'm looking to take my photography more seriously, and to the next level.  I'm looking to get more serious about my writing, and take my blogging to the next level.  Will that happen right away?  Most likely not.  But I'll take my baby steps.  And unfortunately those baby steps led me away from Blogger.

I have loved blogging here for four long years.  I have had three blogger blogs that I've brought to triple digit followers, and so I'm hoping to start fresh elsewhere, with new motivation, and new goals.

I will miss everyone, but I'm keeping my Twitter and will probably just rename my Facebook.  For those of you interested in keeping up with my blog, please feel free to e-mail me, and I will be happy to send you the new link!

My new e-mail is sam.mel725@gmail.com

I love you all and thank you for your support and comments and follows, etc throughout the years!

xoxo,
Sam

Hey all, happy Sunday!  The dreadful humidity has finally broken, and you can bet I am stoked to finally look forward to a night where I won't be sweating my you-know-what off while trying to sleep in a house with no AC.

Aside from the sweltering heat, the weekend has been great, chock full of sun, fun, and friends.  How have your weekends been?

We head home tomorrow, and I'm back to work Tuesday for, get this, one day, and then my boss gave me Wednesday, Thursday, Friday off for my birthday.  Not that I have anything planned, but still, it will give me time to catch up on some stuff, which will be nice.

I started typing this when Anthony's parents left to go buy a Scrabble game, and they're just getting back, so, it's go time, ha.  Wish me luck!

Disappointment

Hey all, I'm posting this from my phone because there is no Internet at the beach house.

So I'll be brief: I am incredibly disappointed in and outraged by Rolling Stone magazine's choice to dedicate their August 2013 cover to the Boston Marathon bomber.

Much like the Sandy Hook nightmare just a couple months earlier, many were saying, attention is what these people crave. They are looking for people to know their names, their faces, and their "causes". Rolling Stone is a great achievement and life accomplishment for those lucky enough to have their faces on it's cover. And to give a terrorist that opportunity, that spotlight is nothing short of un-American, and it sends a terrible message.

I don't care that he was popular. I don't care that he had a bright future. I don't care that somewhere down the line he was scooped up by a terrorist group. I care about the 8-year-old boy who was killed. The security guard. The spectators and runners who lost limbs and brain function. The family members of those who were lost. THAT is who I want to see on the cover of our big magazines. Not those responsible for their agony.

So I hope Rolling Stone learns from this mistake. The cover story of our popular magazines are not reserved for terrorists or murderers. In closing I'd like to give a nice heartfelt shout out to stores such as CVS/pharmacy, Walgreens, Cumberland Farms, and many others for boycotting the sale of August's issue. Thank you for speaking for those whose voices were stolen from them, and not letting their killer pollute the cover of magazines without consequence.

Those are the real Americans.

What I'm drinking Wednesday

Hey all!

Whether or not I'll make this a weekly thing, I don't know.  But I thought I would share my ever-growing barista knowledge, and maybe once a week or so pop in and enlighten you all with a new drink combination stemming purely from my fat-kid mentality and need to have a constant intake of caffeine both on and off the job.

Just kidding.  I'm not quite that addicted.  Yet.

Anyway, this drink is something I threw together this afternoon before I left work, and I am in love.  As far as the calories?  Well, let's just not talk about it.  I mean, it's not that bad.  Maybe about the same amount of half and half as you would throw in an iced coffee.  We can all live with that, right?

Anyway, let me fill you in on the delicious details of this new little recipe.

If you were to order it at Starbucks, I think the best way to get your desire across would be to order an:

Iced
[Size]
Half-Caf (or whatever caffeine combo you desire)
Toffee Nut
Breve
Shaken
Americano

It's creamy, and nutty, and oh so delicious.  The espresso isn't over-powering if you get one less shot, and it just really hits the spot!

Give it a whirl!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
