Coffee Giveaway (Mark-Out Monday #2)!

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you all had a phenom. weekend! (Linking up here.)

It's time for Mark-Out Monday, week two! Which, if you weren't around for last week's, is a giveaway of my 1 lb. of coffee or box of K-cups from Starbucks! This will happen mostly every week, unless I need to snag it for myself or someone else every so often!

But before I get to that, I just need to share with everyone what my Saturday night looked like.

Anyone heard of the Harlem Shake? The current trend floating around YouTube?

I had heard of it, but never really knew until I researched it Saturday evening when I got a text from Anthony's sister's friend saying we were all doing a Harlem Shake video, and to get over there ASAP, lol.

Apparently it is this little craze where you start out with a seemingly normal scene, all relaxed and calm, with just one person dancing like a weirdo. Then about fifteen seconds in, it cuts to everyone dancing like idiots to this one harlem shake song.

Sounds ridiculous to explain. But I will say, I probably couldn't have come up with a better way to spend my Saturday night. :)

Observe.

Meet my girlfriend Anthony, the cheerleader. Hehe. And to spare his poor dignity, I have to let you know, he was all but forced into wearing the uniform to appease his sister and her friend. Hehe. Nice bro. :) I will say though, he certainly knew how to work those pom-poms. Go team!

From right to left: Anthony, behind him is his mom decked out like a MILF. Next to him is his dad wearing his mom's coat. Behind his dad is an oompaloompa me wearing his sister's snowsuit. Next to Anthony's dad is his sister Olivia wearing footy pajamas, behind her is her friend Lauren wearing a biking over a huge fuzzy thing, holding their dog Ginger. Behind her is Anthony's brother Michael wearing a ski mask and gloves, and then far left is my cousin wearing a scarf on his head and sunglasses.

And a few pictures from the night.

Lauren & I, and then Lauren & I again with Anthony creepin' in the back.

Lauren & Olivia

And then Lauren and I afterward.

Anyway....
let's get to the giveaway, shall we??

This week I will be featuring a medium roast. And we might as well start with our house blend, no?

Pike Place
A Latin American bold, yet balanced blend.

Tasting Notes
Smooth & balanced

Chocolate, cinnamon, nuts

*I can offer this in either whole bean or K-cups -- winner's choice!*

happy monday

subtitle: Ew.

How was everyone's weekend?

Any fun Super Bowl parties? I wasn't a fan of either team, but ultimately decided on the Ravens for two reasons:

  • Michael Oher, the guy on which one of my favorite movies, The Blind Side, is based plays for the Ravens. Come on now, what would Sandra Bullock do?
  • my cousin was rooting for the niners.

Hehe.

Saturday night, Anthony's sister, her friend, and I went to see Mama. On the creep scale of one to ten, I would give it about a seven. There were some creepy parts, and I will admit I covered my eyes for certain scenes, but overall, I don't think I was as close to wetting my pants as I thought I would be. But, on the other hand, I wasn't anywhere near as disappointed as I was with The Woman in Black. Heck, I practically brought a change of pants for that one. Big let down.

Anyway, the movie itself was pretty good. It was eerie, and had a good plot. It made you like and sympathize with the characters. The acting was pretty good too. Not to mention, the ending was satisfying in a very unsatisfying way. Meaning, as it's happening you're like, "wait, what!?" but after you take a few minutes you realize an alternative would have been cliché. Know what I mean? I hope that is some insight without giving too much away.. I have a hard time finding that happy medium, haha.

Beyond that, most of my weekend was spent at Starbucks either working or doing homework. Anthony's weekend consisted of a project that took him two straight days to finish (including one morning of going to bed at 5:30 am), and then diving right into a five-page paper that he finished up at around midnight last night. Yuck. And I thought my weekend was tiring. Those professors of his...
it's like each one actually thinks their's are his only class.

In other news, remember yesterday when I mentioned rehashing the whole Blogger of the Week/Month idea? I think I will actually go ahead with that one. I'm trying to think of some questions to ask you all. Hopefully this time next week things can get started? Be sure to check back!

I think that's about it for now. Not much to report when the last three days have been consumed with work and school... The next couple of weekends should be more interesting, I hope. And yay, Valentine's Day is coming up. I'm hoping to go to the casino with Anthony again. It (could be) a fun little tradition that I'd love to keep up. :)

What are your plans for this week? Valentine's Day? Anything in mind for that yet?

Hope you are all having a great Monday! Sorry my posts are such a bore lately!

things I have learned from LMN.

I love my boyfriend Anthony.

I love hanging out with him.

I am not too fond of days where I don't get to see him for at least a little while.

However, in that deep, devastating pit of free time where he is being studious working on architecture-related homework, and I am being lazy, concocting ways to exploit my "work drama" to score a reality show and thus meet the Kardashians, I often like to shove time fillers. One of those fillers happens to be the one and only Lifetime Movie Network.

We all love Lifetime movies. Where else can you find such a deranged collection of characters, plots, and emotions all coiled together into one theatrical shit-show like a perfectly crafted roll of sushi?

Not to mention all the great lessons you can learn from these movies.

Some of the delectable morsels of knowledge I have taken from such flicks?

1. It's really easy to sneak out of a hospital.
For real. From a chick being locked down in a psych ward for being schizophrenic and seeing the ghosts of murder victims of a particular case she was working on to a recovering coma patient who is under arrest as a murder suspect. Whatever the reason for their imprisonment, these women always find a way to Jack Bauer their way out of their hospital room without any sort of security being able to detect or stop them.

This is before the psych ward. :-O

2. Where in real life time is of the essence, in Lifetime land, time is on your side.

I was watching Deadly Sibling Rivalry (does that not just scream "lifetime movie!") last night and one main character was an excellent rock climber, the other, her twin, sucked at it, and apparently life as well. Towards the end, Sporty Twin's daughter had very unrealistically been pitched over a cliff by Loser Twin who was evidently a fervent psychopath. Of course, as luck would have it, the kid lands on the side of the cliff like Spider Man, with a good footing and decent hand placement. Big shot rock climber mom decides she is going to put her skillz to use, and leaves her dangling for a good 5 minutes at least while she runs to some shed full of rock climbing equipment with no more than a heartwarming, "hold on- I'll be right back!" -- "I'll try, mom!"* exchange. While in the shed, she makes time to peruse said equipment until she finds the right stuff, and beat up Loser Twin who was trying to kill her with a garden rake. Did I mention this was like, a day after waking up from a coma? Someone was pounding the Red Bull that day.

* Who says, "I'll try!" to a state-the-obvious comment like that? How about an "if I don't, I'll die. I love you!" or "Hurry!" or something equally more realistic?

Spoiler alert!

3. The more safe and secure your gated community is, the higher the likelihood that someone will try to kill you.
In Love Thy Neighbor, a family moves into a gated community after a traumatic break-in. After a shocking plot twist, lightening struck twice in the same spot and they moved in next to a raging lunatic who killed their cat, stabbed their daughter in the leg (I think?), and tried to kill the mom. Then, in Panic Button, same theme. Family tries to reestablish a sense of normalcy after a hinted-at traumatic incident involving the wife. They pack up and move to a gated community. Ah, safe. Oh but wait, as it turns out, they picked the exact house that Mr. Sociopath I-wear-all-black-all-the-time lives next door to. And, as luck would have it, he becomes obsessed with the wife and tries to get rid of the husband who almost cheated on her while away on business. Don't worry, husband learned from his mistake and in his next life divorced his wife before finding someone else on Pretty Little Liars where he plays Hanna's dad.

Ah, gated communities. Apparently all this time they have just been working to keep the crazy inside, not out. ;)

Believe it or not, this is the normal family.

Oh Lifetime. What would we do without you?

What are your favorite Lifetime movies?

Have a great Fall weekend! :)

Prom Commentary.. a "Promentary"

Hi. I realize I have already posted once today.

Once you're done pinching yourselves, you might want to go buy a lottery ticket. Is there a blue moon out there too?

Anyway, I'm bored out of my mind because Anthony is on some stupid Boston trip* for school. We were supposed to hang out when he got back in an hour or so, but the return trip has been pushed back a bit. Which leaves me with a wide open noche** that I am kicking off with the picking apart of the new Jonas Brothers show, Married to Jonas. Yes, it has taken me four days to finally get around to watching it. Too much time dedicated to Beverly Hills Nannies, Dance Moms, and the Kardashians. Reality TV. It's what's for dinner.

* the trip isn't actually stupid. I, however, am selfish.
** boredom tidbit? When I wrote the word noche, I was ignorantly under the impression that the e was supposed to be an é, and thus stopped typing to download the Spanish dictionary onto Mozilla so that it would offer a spell check with the proper é that apparently wasn't proper.

Let's begin shall we?

Oh wait, let's not. Because I haven't even started the episode and I can already feel the sting of laughter-induced tears at the mere description a la OnDemand.

Try and locate the line that had me giggling... "Danielle's family worries that their youngest daughter may go too far on prom night, but son-in-law Kevin helps Bucky come to terms with his daughter growing up. Are Dani's parents being too protective?"

Sorry, I picked it out for you.

I'm sorry, but something about the fact that all three of the JoBros sported or plan to sport promise rings until the day they say "I Do"... what about that tidbit qualifies Kevin to convince "Bucky" to loosen the reigns on the youngest Jonas in-law?

Before the first commercial break we have learned:
Kevin wants to join the mile high club.
It's cute and not awkward at all that Purity Jonas makes all these little sexual jokes. I'm going to be a hundo percent honest here... I'm still not convinced the guy is straight. So I'm still a little "yeah right, Kevin" when he says those things.
Kevin toured with Avril Lavigne instead of going to his prom.
Eh, I probably would too. She was probably still cool then.
The commercial was for ZzzQuil.
This just made me chuckle. I was just over at one of my hilarious blog bud's blog, Graceless Lady, earlier today and while describing her sleeping quirks, she mentioned the ZzzQuil commercials and how they appear constantly during OnDemand shows. So unfortunately true. It's almost as frequent as Shallow Hal's appearance on E! I invite you to guess how many times that movie is on E!*

* Daily! D A I L Y some weeks! I will turn on the TV, and there is Jack Black. Again. I swear, if DVD sales have plummeted, it has nothing to do with the fact that the movie isn't that good. Nor that people no longer buy DVDs because everyone loves BluRay. But more due to the idea that, on any given day, if there is someone out there who is craving some Shallow Hal, they can just flip to channel 55.

Other:

- I think Kevin drives a Porsche Cayenne.
Not an expert, but it definitely resembles one from the side. But what got me more was that bitchy envy feeling I get when I see one on the road and smother it in the stink eye of "I want one."
- It's really cool that they had all her friends over to their lavish mansion
If I were invited to a Jonas home for a pre-prom party? Holy crap on bread, I'd be so there (looking for Joe, but still, I'd be there). Keep in mind that my prom was smack-dab in the middle of my bout of insanity. Aka, I attended a Jonas Brothers concert that summer.
- The sister's dress was super pretty,
and I wish I had the boobs for it, and yada yada yada... I was more into her mom's iPhone case... it was really cute and colorful and I kind of want one. Because the 9 I have already aren't enough.
- Aww,
when Kevin said "of course, Katie" when she thanked him, I felt a little bid bad for making fun of him. He seems genuinely nice and shit.
- And, I won't lie,
Cue slasher flick music. :-O
I think it's super sweet that Dani gave him a prom. She's adorbs. Especially with that whole balloon fear thing. Which is odd, but hey, who am I to judge? Squirrels scare me. Along with spiders, clowns, my friend's mom, and the idea of Snooki being a parent.

As far as the preview for next week's goes? Yeesh. I live a thousand miles away and Mama Jonas still scares the shit out of me. Good thing Dani wears a cross. That woman looks scare-ray!

In answer to my Twitter dilemma... I'm still on team Wife. You?

Are any of you still with me? I won't blame you if you're not. I actually hate posts that are all about TV. But, hey, when you're bored out of your mind, you're bored out of your mind. :p

dumpster diving

You could say when it comes to crap TV, I'm not picky.

Unless it's Jersey Shore. Ew. Pass. No thank you. That rowdy crowd gives my generation a bad name.

I don't know why I'm so into garbage reality TV, but apparently I am.

Maybe because the stupid drama featured on those shows makes the drama in my life and at my work look, well, miniscule.

Why worry about who said what about so-and-so at the CB, when Kim has lost her $75,000 diamond earring in the Pacific ocean?!

Who cares if so-and-so stole what's-her-face's shift, when Jill has yanked Kendall out of Abby Lee Dance Company because she can't handle it?

What? Who is pregnant by someone half her age? Sorry, couldn't hear you over Blake Shelton's delicious southern drawl

Someone is hiding her alcoholism from her kids? But wait, Steven Tyler said what to another under-aged girl on American Idol?!

So, I think two things are clear here...

My work needs a reality show of its very own, and all the other trash on TV makes our horsesh*t look a little bit less ridiculous. ;)

Does reality TV help you escape from actuality? What are some of your favorite shows?

supah bowl sunday!

Hey everyone, happy Super Bowl Sunday! Who are you rooting for?

My main sport is baseball, and I'm a Yankee fan. So you'd think I'd stick with the NY swing of things (ha, no pun intended) and cheer on the Giants in the bowl. But, oddly, I represent the Pats. For no particularly good reason. I'm not a huge football fan. I like it as a good ole American sport that brings together the masses (but what good sport doesn't? That's why I like sports), and I'll watch it while drinking Bud Light Lime and scarfing wings like a guy (only for football!), but I was never a big enough fan to actually ally myself with a team for any real football-y reasons.

My reasons- I liked their name, I liked the red, white, and blue, and I liked Tom Brady.

Well, I still like those things, but I've also come to support the team just because I like them, haha. So, I think we know who I'll be cheering on while serving up beer & wings tonight at work for the last Sunday of the season. Wah. I love working football Sundays. We get to wear jerseys (yeahh #12), it's so relaxed and chill, and I love the sound of the crowds cheering during intense plays. Can't wait for the warmer weather so baseball can start up again!

Who are you rooting for?

Happy Super Bowl XLVI!
